Runner

We have a runner. And a long jumper. And with the long legs her daddy gave her...I am not the slightest bit surprised.

She's not lightening fast like her brother, or slightly awkward and clutzy like her sister (can't win em all...and I'll take the blame for that one). But she runs. She's a farther distance runner than her mom at the moment...but we enjoy runs together. Ironically 10 yrs ago when I was pregnant I can remember going for runs in the neighborhood park up until I was too big to run ...and thinking about the day he/she would join me on runs. Well, that day is here...and it's weird to think about how fast it came! Keeping that pace...10 yrs from now we could be grandparents! That's actually horrifying at the moment..and for the record I am not rushing a thing. Just thinking logically and realistically it could happen. We'd have to arrange the marriage of course, and it would be the first year we'd start letting her date according to her dad's rules...so it would be doubtful, but it certainly could happen ;) At the time I thought 25 was a a bit old to start having a large family too...ah it's all a matter of perspective. I think I will just stick to reflecting a bit more on the running for now...and quit giving myself a panic attack.

After a few local races just for fun, it peeked her interest to do running club and then on to track this year at school. She enjoyed both her track meets (yes...I chuckled when I saw the season is 3 weeks long..2 meets, and then Districts). And she did alright. Her relay team even qualified for Districts.

You better believe I was one proud mama watching her 4 X 100 relay team take 1st place at districts for her grade level last week!!!

It brought back memories of my parents coming to watch me run track in jr high and high school. I don't even think we had track in elementary school back then ;) I'll admit, track can be a pretty boring sporting event. It's not as intense as this family likes with basketball...but now that I am the parent on the other side of the fence...I tend to get a little emotional cheering on my own kid, especially on the track.

I think we have few more seasons to look forward to. Her interests have even led her to look into a triathalon.
